Volumetric Pumps

for ketonic resins

Resins are essential synthetic materials for modern industry: they are used in the production of building materials, paints, adhesives, packaging, rubbers, and numerous other production sectors, thanks to their versatility and high technical performance.

Ketonic resins: what they are and where they are used

Ketonic resins are organic resins characterized by the presence of ketonic functional groups in their molecular structure. This particular configuration gives the material properties that make them ideal for multiple industrial applications, including:

  • Industrial adhesives: used as adhesives for wood, plastics, metals, and other substrates, ketonic resins offer excellent adhesive strength, high tensile resistance, and good anti-corrosive properties.

  • Protective coatings: used as components in coatings for metal and wooden surfaces, they help protect against corrosion, abrasion, and mechanical damage, prolonging the useful life of structures.

  • Composite materials (filled resins): they can act as polymer matrices in composites reinforced with carbon or glass fiber, generating lightweight materials with high mechanical strength, excellent electrical insulation, and excellent corrosion resistance.

  • Reinforced plastics: ketonic resins are part of the formulation of fiber-reinforced plastics used for lightweight yet structurally robust components, for example in the automotive and aerospace sectors.

  • Paints and finishes: ketonic resin-based paints ensure weather-resistant finishes with good electrical properties, ideal for applications exposed to outdoor or aggressive environments.

Ketonic resins are adopted wherever high mechanical resistance, chemical stability, and long-lasting durability are required.
Our client's challenge: safe and continuous handling of resins

A major company specializing in the production of ketonic resins needed to reliably manage the transfer of chemical components used in its production process.

The main challenges involved:

  • handling clean but viscous fluids, sometimes sensitive to chemical-physical variations;

  • the need for constant and controlled flows to ensure quality and repeatability of the finished product;

  • managing the washing of process lines, with the presence of potentially abrasive residues.

To meet these needs, Varisco pumps, particularly the V series and J series, were selected and installed at various points in the plant.

Aquageo's solution: Varisco pumps for ketonic resins

For the transfer of resins and main chemical components, the company adopted Varisco V series rotary volumetric pumps.

These pumps are particularly suitable for clean, viscous, or sensitive fluids.

They allow a "gentle" treatment of the product, minimizing chemical-physical alterations during transfer.

Flow rate proportional to speed

The rotary volumetric technology allows for flow rates directly proportional to the shaft rotation speed, promoting precise dosing.

Constant and pulsation-free flow

The pumps ensure regular, pulsation-free flows, independent of back pressure. This aspect is crucial for formulation and mixing processes where flow stability directly impacts product quality.

Thanks to these characteristics, the V series pumps are a reliable solution for handling ketonic resins and high-viscosity chemical components.

Varisco J series: self-priming centrifugal pumps

For the service and maintenance phases of the plant, particularly for line washing, the company uses Varisco J series self-priming centrifugal pumps. In this context, the J series pumps are used for cleaning pipes and process lines.

They handle fluids containing abrasive residues from resin production. The self-priming capability makes these pumps ideal for frequent washing, emptying, and recirculation operations, reducing plant downtime.

The integration of self-priming centrifugal pumps allows the client company to maintain always efficient lines, reducing the risk of contamination and unwanted deposits.

The benefits for our client

The adoption of Varisco pumps, selected and supplied by Aquageo, allowed the client to achieve:

  • greater reliability of the resin transfer process;

  • stable and pulsation-free flows improve process control and formulation repeatability;

  • reduced risk of product alterations;

  • gentle treatment of fluids preserves the chemical-physical properties of ketonic resins;

  • better management of washing operations.

The self-priming J series pumps facilitate line washing even in the presence of abrasive residues, limiting downtime and maintenance costs.

The combined use of volumetric and centrifugal pumps, dedicated to different phases of the process, ensures a more efficient, safe, and easy-to-manage plant.
